Double Fifth is named after the Chinese holiday “Duan Wu”. This celebration, which features dragon boat racing, began over 2,000 years ago and falls on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar year. So, what is synonymous with dragon boat racing? Why Double Fifth of course!
Double Fifth Dragon Boating is the world's largest provider of dragon boat products including paddles, paddle bags, apparel and accessories. However, you must remember that dragon boating is a niche sport so our claim at world dominance is backed by a very small operation. We like to think of ourselves as a big fish in a small puddle. Our legal entity is USA Dragon Boating, LLC, the name we first used when we got started. We switched to the D5 alias to avoid confusion (there are all sorts of groups claiming to be the governing body using similar names) Double Fifth Dragon Boating was formed to address the growing needs of dragon boat paddlers, clubs and festivals. We were founded in 2005 by long time dragon boater Jeff Campell. Jeff's career started small in Portland, OR way back in 1993 when he attended his first race as a spectator. He progressed from spectator to participant and ultimately landed on one of the USA's most elite teams. Two National Championships and some assorted rotator cuff problems later, he retired to become an international man of leisure. This retirement was short lived when Jeff was called out of retirement to serve on the Board of Directors of the USDBF (the national governing body of the sport). His involvement nationally lead him to become an international race official. Several world championshps later a business was born!
We are located in beautiful Vancouver, Washington, USA. We are proud to have been instrumental in the development of races all over the USA including: Oakland, Foster City, Houston, Dallas, Shreveport, Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, Charleston and tiny Lake Lure, NC, one of our many success stories. If Lake Lure, NC, population 5,000 can support a race we are sure your community can as well!
In addition to dragon boating we are also strategic partners with KayakPro, USA one of North Americas premier maker of competition and recreational kayaks and paddling ergometers We are also full members of the United States Dragon Boat Federation.
